"How" Part I. My First Toy

"How" Part I. My First Toy

“How” Part I. In this edition of founder’s month, I will share “how” I began the creative process. Before I knew what the first product would be, I decided that I wanted fun characters that children could relate to, learn from and be encouraged by. Thus, the Bevy & Dave characters were created first, even before I determined what the name of the company would be. Their clothes were chosen carefully and are a reflection of my personal style. Bevy is my daughter Beverly and Dave is my brother David, both in cartoon form. Together, they are the self-leadership Gurus...

"Where" I Began Research to Create my First Toy

"Where" I Began Research to Create my First Toy

In this edition of Founders Month, I will discuss where I began my research to begin the journey of creating my first toy. First, I surveyed parents to learn how they share history with their children. I then provided optional ways to explore history and asked them to select and rank their choices. Ancestors & Descendants is our parent company name as a reminder of what we do and why we do it (to connect...

In an effort to act on my passion, I pursued a doctorate degree with research focused on ways in which children learn and understand history and how that impacts student achievement. However, research alone was not satisfying, I knew it was a distraction from a higher calling. I wanted to contribute to a tangible solution; so, I eventually moved on to figure it out. Months...

Exploring History Through The Lens of Self-Leadership

Exploring History Through The Lens of Self-Leadership

Thank you for joining me for another edition of Bevy & Dave's Founders Month. You now know my “WHY,” for creating #bevyanddave. Now, let’s further explore why self-leadership is the lens I use to share history. Self-leadership, the process of influencing one’s self, is Indeed the treasure that resides in everyone, and yet many people struggle to lead themselves to achieve. My ancestor’s overall response to their oppression is one of the greatest examples of self-leadership; their achievements against all odds are remarkable. From them, I have learned powerful lessons on leadership, courage, strength, commitment, perseverance, faith, hope and so...
